The Mountain Men and Julie

In 1979 The Mountain Men and Julie made their debut at the Community Club in Uniontown Washington. Laer that year, they began playing at the Tack Room in Asotin. They were to become a regular band at that club and over the next 20 years, the family band performed all over the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley.

The Mountain Men and Julie, performed for the Lewiston Roundup, Grangeville Border Days and a host of other straight up country venues. With Delvin on vocals and rhythm guitar, Shayne on vocals and lead guitar and Julie on bass, they were to win a recording contract in the battle of the bands in the mid-80s. They beat out a number of other bands and traveled to Sun Valley Idaho to record their first songs.

In 2000, Alane Ennis joined the band and later married Shayne. The name was changed to BEARGRASS and they recorded their first CD "Storm Moon" in 2003. The next 5 years saw them traveling more and playing a wider range of venues. In 2009, Julie and Delvin decided to retire but don't be surprised if you see them still joining in or jamming with other musicians around the area. .

Julie is a registered nurse and currently works full-time when she is not playing the bass. She was an active member of the Idaho Old-time Fiddler's Assoc.  and plays fiddle when no one is looking!
She followed Delvin around to his gigs for a few of the early years until she realized that she could be playing too.  She was taught to play the bass guitar by their long-time family friend, Don Caward.  Julie still thanks him every time she straps on her candy apple red bass for helping her achieve so much fun in life.  Her walking bass is the cornerstone of the many traditional country songs in the Beargrass repertoire.

Delvin loves everything to do with country music and he is a walking encyclopedia of country music trivia.  He has collected thousands of pieces of memorabilia and albums and hopes to someday have a museum to display them.  As a youngster he played music in the Council/New Meadows area up and in a number of bands around the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley of Idaho.  He continued the tradition when Shayne was old enough to play lead and they formed the Mountain Men and Julie.
