Band Biographies

SHAYNE

Without Shayne there would be no Beargrass.  He is the lead guitar, lead singer, booking agent, business manager, sound man and all around gentleman.  In addition to lead electric, he is a consummate flat-picker, plays mandolin, fiddle, harmonica, and dobro.  He is also a good bass player but prefers to leave that to Julie.

Shayne started playing lead in the clubs when he was 12 years old and music has been a huge part of his life. It comes second only to his two boys Marty and Robert, with whom he spends weekends fishing, camping, and anything they want to do together!

JULIE

Julie is a registered nurse and currently works full-time when she is not playing the bass. She was an active member of the Idaho Old-time Fiddler's Assoc.  and plays fiddle when no one is looking!  She followed Delvin around to his gigs for a few of the early years until she realized that she could be playing too.  She was taught to play the bass guitar by their long-time family friend, Don Caward.  Julie still thanks him every time she straps on her candy apple red bass for helping her achieve so much fun in life.  Her walking bass is the cornerstone of the many traditional country songs in the Beargrass repertoire.

DELVIN

Delvin loves everything to do with country music and he is a walking encyclopedia of country music trivia.  He has collected thousands of pieces of memorabilia and albums and hopes to someday have a museum to display them.  As a youngster he played music in the Council/New Meadows area up and in a number of bands around the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley of Idaho.  He continued the tradition when Shayne was old enough to play lead and they formed the Mountain Men and Julie.

Alane is the latecomer to the band. She owns and operates a small business consulting firm Northwest Assessment Services.   She joined the band in 2000; she and Shayne married in 2001.  Alane played music with Country Express in Central Oregon for six years and in 1997 she recorded her first CD “Old Avon Road”.  She plays guitar and has been writing songs since she was 15.  When she isn’t playing music, she does artwork, gardens and spends time with Polly and Bryn, her two border collies.
